Are social networking sites helping or hindering people's connections?

There are lots of pros about social networking sites but also cons. My friends and I have been using social networking sites for a few years now and some of them have been cyber-bullied. That’s right, "cyber-bullied". Cyber-bullying is a pretty big issue with social networking sites. Hurting someone via computer is easy, you just need to be friends with someone and all you need to do is type inppropriate things, send it and there you go, you just cyber-bullied someone! Most victims of cyber-bullying are teenagers. Teenagers aren’t mature enough yet, that’s why most social networking sites suggest that people under 18 shouldn’t be using it. Cyber-bullying has led to many teenagers suiciding because of the mental pain they get from all the stupid words people are saying online about them. Another thing that social networking sites affected us with is our social life. So many people now seem so active online, talking to everyone, etc... But when you see them in real life, they are a totally different person. Super shy and never contributes anything into the conversation.

Alright, let’s talk about the positive side of social networking sites now. Social networking sites such as FaceBook and Google + are really good to share information with, create events, etc...  Now by just posting pictures or information on your account, you can tell all your friends what you’re up to, what you’ve been doing or you can even organize a party at your house. All of this is awesome, but to me, the best thing about social networking sites is that you can find your friends so easily. By just typing your old friend’s name on the searching bar, you can already find out what your old friend has been up to, how he looks like now and can catch up with them!

Alright, that's all I have to say about social networking sites. Please be safe online and remember that it's how and what you use the social networking sites for that makes it a good/bad thing.

Movie review

Hey what’s up everyone? In this post, I will do a small review of 2 of my favourite movies. Inception and I Am Legend.

Inception
IMDB rating: 8.8/10
Cast: Leonardo DiCaprio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ellen Page, Tom Hardy, Ken Watanabe.
Dom Cobb is a thief. He steals information from people’s dreams when they are sleeping, that’s why companies hire him. The US government are after him because of his job, that made him lose his whole family. After a while, he has been offered another task. This task is not like the other tasks he has done, this time, he has to plant an idea in someone’s dream and not steal. He thinks that it is impossible but because Saito (the person that gave him this task) promised that he’ll fix the problems with the government, then he’ll try. After a lot of research, he has found out a way, the only way to plant information in someone’s dream is to go within the dream of the dream of the dream. He knew that this is really dangerous, this is not like the other tasks, if someone dies in this type of dream, they will never wake up unlike the normal dreams. Cobb needs a bigger group for this type of task, he used to design the worlds inside the dreams but this time, he will need a better  architect than he is to design the world inside the dreams and other people that can help him when they’re inside the dreams.

I Am Legend
IMDB rating: 7.1
Cast: Will Smith.
Robert Neville is a scientist in New York City who is on a mission to find a cure for a disease that has affected almost everyone in the world and changed them into a zombie-like creature. It all started 3 years back when a scientist found a cure for cancer, but what this cure did was just change them into these creatures. Neville is trying to cure these humans that have changed by doing all type of experiments with his immune blood. He and his only friend, Samantha, his trusty dog, cannot give up because he might be the only one that could cure this disease. He has been sending messages daily via the radio hoping that he isn’t the only survivor around New York.

My 5 year plan!

After finishing highschool, I will take a year break. A very chill year break where I won’t have to think about anything other than sport and friends. After the year break, I will be living in Australia with an Australian girlfriend. I hope that I will be playing rugby or any other sport that I love proffesionally. If not, I will probably be studying Engineering. I’m not sure what type of Engineering yet, but I’m interested in it. I see 3 different scenarios that might be happening to me in 5 years time.

-          I will play sport proffesionally and live in an apartment with a friend or my girlfriend.
-          I will still be playing sport, but just for fun and will be living in a UNI lodge while studying Engineering.
-          I will play sport proffesionally AND study Engineering while living in a UNI lodge.

Which ever of the 3 scenarios turns out to be the one, I will be a very contented person living my life and doing what I like for the pursuit of happiness.

How to persuade your parents to buy you something.

Hey what's up everyone? This week's post will be a tutorial on how to persuade your parents to buy you something.

There are many ways to make your parents do something, but making them buy you something is a bit harder. I will list the 3 main things you need to execute before actually telling them about the item you want to buy.

1. If your parents do house chores a lot, you should start doing some of it, but make sure that they don't know that you're doing this just because you want them to buy you something; and start doing this at least a week before you tell them about the item.

2. Improve your grades. If you get good grades, your parents will be very proud of you and would want to award you for your amazing effort. This one here should be done a while before telling them about the item.

3. And for the last one, the easiest one. Be nice to them. Do what  they ask you to do, and interact with them more.

If all else fails, then pester them until they buy it for you. Haha just kidding, if you followed the steps, you should get what you want. I used this way to get most of my stuff, for example, before I told my mum about a guitar I wanted, I showed her my math assignment where I got an A, she then straight away thought of rewarding me and that's where I mentioned the guitar, and guess what? I got the guitar a week later! Alright that's it, thanks everyone, hope it helped, stay tuned for the next post.

The Paralympic Games

The Olympics are over with the USA winning with 104 medals of which 46 are gold; but don't worry, there's still more exciting sporting to come! And the next big thrill will be "The Paralympic Games" also being held in London and will start on Wednesday 29th of August!

The Paralympic Games will last for a good 15 days with a lot of interesting variety of events such as wheelchair fencing, sitting volleyball and the one I’m looking forward to the most, the wheelchair rugby! There will also be events that all of us are familiar with such as swimming, cycling track and track and field.

Queen Elizabeth II will be officially opening the games just like she did for The Olympics. Prince Philip was also suppose to attend the opening ceremony, but it looks like he is too sick with a serious bladder infection.

“Blade Runner” Oscar Pistorious is making history by competing in both The Olympics and The Paralympics this year! There were so many complaints about him competing in the 400m run in The Olympics because a percentage of The Olympics fans think that he had an unfair advantage with his bouncy blade feet.

So everyone, don’t forget to turn on your TV starting 29th of August to follow The Paralympic Games! See you guys on the next post.

Why am I who I am?

That's a really hard question. Many people have inspired me for who I am today.

Sport has changed my life the most in the past two years. I started getting into sport at the age of 14 when one of my friends invited me to join a rugby training session on an oval in Sanur. After that day, I felt that rugby could be part of my life because I enjoyed it so much. I continued with the training sessions and I got better and better. No one person really supported me to keep playing rugby, I motivated myself because I really liked it and wanted to get better, but now, I feel like the whole club is actually supporting me and has become like a second family.
After awhile training hard, I got to go to different places to play some matches, such as the big rugby 10s competition that happens every year in Jakarta and a friendly match in Sumbawa against the Nagas.

Because of rugby, I became pretty good in sport generally. I now learn new sport skills faster, understand sport in general a little bit better and helped me become a better player.

I am not who I am today just because of rugby and my team mates, there are also my family, friends and anyone I crossed troughout my life which made me who I am today, but yes, sport is now a big thing to me.
Thanks for reading everyone, stay tuned for next week’s post!

Top 3 favourite surfers

This post will be about my top 3 favourite surfers. I don’t surf much, but I really like watching surf videos and look at specific surfers’ montages. So here are my top 3 favourite surfers, all sponsored by Quiksilver.

3. Kelly Slater
Age: 40
Residence: Florida, California and Hawaii
Height: 1.75m
Weight: 73kg
Sponsor: Quiksilver.
Stance: Regular/Natural

Kelly Slater is a really humble surfer, he has won 11 world titles on the ASP World Tour. He lived in Florida where the waves are really bad, for him to get to the point where he is now is quiet amazing. There probably won’t be any surfers like him for the next 100 years.

2. Dane Reynolds
Age: 26
Residence: Ventura, California
Height: 1.83m
Weight: 79kg
Sponsors: Quiksilver, Vans, Monster Energy drink, Channel Islands and Boost Mobile.
Stance: Regular/Natural

Dane Reynolds is known for his “go for broke” style, where he experiments lots of new tricks. I really like him for his awesome airs, he does the best 360 airs and he’s a really smooth surfer.

1. Clay Marzo
Age: 23
Residence: Lahaina, Maui
Height: 185m
Weight: 79kg
Sponsors: Quiksilver, Skullcandy, DC Shoes, Rockstar, Vestal, SPY Optic and Super Brand  Surfboards.
Stance: Goofy

Clay marzo is my number one favourite surfer. He has the most unique surfing style, he just goes for it. He developped his own trick called the “Clayback”. This trick is an advanced version of the snap where you land on your back and then get back up.

Work experience at 3V Fitness - Update

Hey everyone! How was your week? My week was awesome, I did my work experience at 3V, it was really exciting! I learnt heaps of new things.

Day 1: The first day was the hardest. I stayed at the reception area for pretty much the whole day with one of the instructors called Jessica. Learnt how to greet people the way they normally do, sell water bottles, give them the towels, etc... It was the hardest day because I was really shy, especially around the members. At the end of the day, I got to join a free class of RPM which was pretty intense.

Day 2: By day 2, I was already pretty comfortable with everyone. I learnt about marketing, about the classes and about how to get qualified as a Les Mills programs trainer with Bobby, a very wise instructor. I then proceed to a very interesting class of TRX. Starting from this day on, my lunch was Mi Ayam every day at a warung next to 3V Fitness.

Day 3: Day 3 started with a fun Body Pump class. This class is easier than the two other classes I did before, but was a bit harder to complete properly because I was very sore from the classes from the previous days. Right after lunch, I learnt how to give someone a fitness assessment with a trainer called Yanuk. And to finish the day, I learnt a bit more about marketing with Bobby.

Day 4: On day 4 I woke up even with more soreness than day 3 because I had rugby training the previous day after the work shift; luckily, the workout I did on day 4 was a stretching and balance class called Body Balance. Before lunch, I gave an actual member a fitness assessment for the first time, which went pretty well. For most of the day, all I did was gym supervision, but also learnt how to use the working out machines properly and some things on how to run a good fitness center with Bobby and Yvette.

Day 5: I started day 5 with a parkour class with the grade 7s and 8s from AIS at 3V Fitness Canggu. Right after the class, I just wanted to go home, I was exhausted, not from the class, but just from the work throughout the week. After lunch, I reviewed a bit about marketing with the assistant manager of 3V Fitness, Min, did some more gym supervision and off to saying thanks and goodbye to everyone.

That’s it. Thanks everyone for reading this post, hope that all of you have a great day and stay tuned for my next post.

My holiday in Australia!

Hey everyone! As you can see from the title, this post will be about my holiday in Australia, and this is also my first post on this blog! One word to describe the holiday is, “New”. New because it was my first time visiting Australia. Everything in Australia is so different, the people, the environment, EVERYTHING! Different doesn’t mean that it was bad, I really liked it actually. My mum and I first flew to Sydney and then went straight to Canberra by bus as soon as we landed. When we arrived in Canberra, my brother picked us up. My brother just finished his studies at the Australian National University. Another reason we went to Australia for holidays was to also attend my brother’s graduation which was held a couple of days after we arrived in Austalia. The weather in Canberra was pretty cold; it was less than 10 degrees celcius everyday and was minus at night. We stayed a couple of days in Canberra, visited places such as the Parliament House and Questacon. We spent our two last days in Sydney, Sydney’s weather was perfect! It wasn’t as cold as Canberra but was still pretty cold, around 18 degrees celcius. In Sydney, we went to the Taronga Zoo and the Opera House. We also bought heaps of chocolates there. Overall the highlights of the holidays for me was being happy to see my brother and experiencing the culture in another country. Alright everyone, that’s it for the post about my holidays in Australia! Thanks for reading and check out the pictures!
